Santa Cruz Filarmonia Orquestra under the direction of Sandra Mohr

On October 1, Sunday at 8:00 PM, the Santa Cruz Filarmonia Orchestra held another concert at the Auditorium of São Luís Marist College, in its host city. The bad weather was not able to contain the pubic that filled the auditorium.

The concert paid tribute to the International Music Day. The date was established in 1975 by the International Music Council, at the time presided by the renowned violinist Yehudi Menuhin. It was intended, therefore, to strengthen the bonds of peace and friendship between people through music. The International Music Council is a non-governmental organization founded in 1948 under the patronage of UNESCO.

The famous Pachelbel's Canon; the dreamy Haydn's String Serenade, extracted from one of his string quartets; an orchestrated version of the Dvorák's Humoresque and The Little Train of the Caipira by Villa-Lobos, were some of the pieces of the first part of the program, dedicated to classical music. The second part, contemplated some movie soundtracks. Among them the Ernesto Nazareth's Odeon and the theme of Cinema Paradiso by Italian composer Ennio Morricone. The concert also featured the piece Magnetic Rag by Scott Joplin - a ragtime, American musical genre that became known in the early twentieth century and was widely used as a silent movie soundtrack.
