NATIONALISTS
A musical journey through different cultures

The Nationalism is the theme of this project, started in October 2012. The project includes the confection of the recital program in form of a book, a CD recording and piano recitals.
The first recital was performed in Timbó – SC, at the Music Museum, on August 4th, 2013.

Seeking to ally good taste, virtuosity and qualified information, the recital propose a journey through different cultures, where classical and popular music merge, creating a sincere portrait of the musical culture from countries that were highlighted in this movement.

The Musical Nationalism sought a definition of national identity, valuing and evidencing the folklore, rhythms and melodies of popular character from countries marginalized by the cultural domination exercised by French, Italian and German music in the nineteenth century.

Many nationalist composers have carried out important musical researches on the folklore of their countries, giving rise to Nationalist Schools such as Polish, Russian, Czech, Hungarian, Scandinavian and Spanish.

Chopin was one of the first nationalists to stand out, bringing the folk music character from his country into his compositions through his polonaises and mazurkas.

In Latin America, the movement took its height a little later, already in the twentieth century, and its most prominent exponent was Brazilian composer Villa-Lobos.
